Closing Deadline Extended to Sept. 30 for Eligible Homebuyer Credit Purchases

WASHINGTON - Eligible taxpayers who contracted to buy a home, qualifying for the first-time homebuyer credit, before the end of April now have until Sept. 30, 2010 to close the deal, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

But nearly half of all consumers have been 30 or more days late on a payment, according to MyFico.com, and three of 10 have been 60 or more days overdue. Home Buyers Get Tax Credit Closing and Flood Insurance Extensions Without Lapse in Coverage; Bills Now Headed for the President

The National Association of Realtors® today commended Congress for timely passage of two bills to extend the home buyer tax credit closing deadline and reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program. Both bills, strongly supported by NAR, had cleared the House earlier and were passed by the Senate last night. They now head to the president for his signature.

A bill to extend the authority for the National Flood Insurance Program, strongly supported by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, was passed by the House today (6/24). The bill would extend the program to September 30, 2010.
